Christmas Recycling And Refuse Collection

Black Refuse Bin

No collections will be made between Thursday 25th December 2008 and Wednesday 31st December 2008 inclusive. Normal service will restart on Thursday 1st January (New Years Day) 2009.

Two extra bags of refuse will be taken with your first collection in 2009. The last date extra waste will be collected is Wednesday 7th January 2009.

Blue Recycling Bin

Please refer to your recycling calendar for your collection dates over the Christmas period.

If you are affected you will be issued with two clear plastic bags which will be taken with your first collection in 2009.

If you are affected and have not received bags by 17th December please contact us, alternatively you can collect your bags from Environmental & Consumer Protection Reception or Civic Centre Reception. The last date extra recycling will be collected is Wednesday 14th January 2009.

• paper - e.g. wrapping paper;
• plastic bottles - e.g. party drink bottles;
• cans - e.g. biscuit & sweets tins and;

Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre

Extra household waste can be disposed of at the Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre which is open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day (25th & 26th December & 1st January). Opening hours 08:30 - 16:30 (last entry 16:15).

Trailers with boxes larger than 1.2 metres x 1.8 metres / 6 foot x 4 foot are banned from entering the site at any time.

We cannot accept any commercial or industrial waste at the site. All residents must provide proof of residency e.g. Council tax statement, driving licence, utility bill or provide a valid permit.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas trees can be recycled at Nuffield Household Waste Recycling Centre, and Upton Country Park from Friday 2nd January until Sunday 11th January 2009. Alternatively Christmas trees can be recycled at the mobile recycling collection points. For dates and times see below.

 Wrapping paper & Christmas Cards

Don't forget to recycle your Christmas cards & wrapping paper in your blue bin once all the festivities are over! Wrapping Paper can be recycled in your blue bin providing it is paper based (not plastic or foil- check to see if it tears like paper) and is mostly free from sticky tape.

The materials that go into making some wrapping paper result in it not always being accepted for recycling:

• wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and/or contains non-paper additives such as gold and silver coloured shapes, glitter, plastics etc which cannot be recycled;
• some wrapping paper is very thin and contains few good quality fibres for recycling; and
• a lot of wrapping paper has sticky tape attached to it which makes it very difficult to recycle.
