Schools' Environment Award - Information for Schools

Information for schools

The revised version of the Schools’ Environment Award is available to all Infant, Primary and Special Schools in the Borough.
The Award focuses on six themes:

1)    The Natural World
2)    Reducing Waste
3)    Healthy
4)    Transport
5)    Litter
6)    Blow your trumpet ( recognising and celebrating achievements)
There are three levels to the Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold .
In 2013/14 four schools took part in the Award – Bearwood Primary & Nursery School, Lilliput CE VC Infant School, Merley First School and Springdale First School.
All schools made excellent progress, with two schools obtaining the Silver and two schools obtaining the Gold Level of the Award.
If you would like your school to take part in this Award, or you would like further information, please contact us.
There are a number of other ways schools can get involved with similar activities. These include:

Educational activities

A waste management officer can visit your school to give an assembly presentation or class activity on recycling and waste minimisation.

Composting in schools

We can provide schools with advice on composting in school, and where to obtain compost bins.

Litter picks

If you would like to do a litter pick in or around your school, we can provide bags, litter pickers, tabards and gloves.

Education - In the Natural Habitat

Outdoor education activities can be held at Upton Country Park. The activities provide cross-curricular learning and fun opportunities for children of school age. As well as developing an understanding of their local environment the activities allow them to get up-close to the plants and animals.
