Blue Flag

Sandbanks has been awarded 22 prestigious International Blue Flags, more than any other beach in the UK. Shore Road, Canford Cliffs and Branksome Chine have Blue Flag status too.

The Blue Flag, awarded annually by ENCAMS link will open in new window, is an environmental award achieved by beaches all over the world that demonstrate high standards of environmental management.  The award period runs during the bathing season from May to September.

Blue Flag beaches meet specific criteria relating to:

  • environmental education and information
  • environmental management
  • safety and services
  • good quality bathing water

Please help support the Blue Flag Programme and help protect the environment by:

  • using the litter and recycling bins
  • using public transport, walking or cycling to the beach
  • enjoying the nature of the beach but treating it with respect
  • choosing holiday sites that care for the environment

If you discover a problem on the beach please inform the Borough of Poole immediately.  In the event that the criteria is not being met the Blue Flag will be removed.

As part of the Blue Flag Programme the Borough of Poole runs a number of environmental education activities throughout the season.  For more information on the activites, please contact the Sandbanks Beach Office.
