Adoption of Poole Core Strategy

At its meeting of 19th February 2009, Poole Council resolved to adopt Poole Core Strategy as amended by the binding inspector's report (dated 28th January 2009). This means the Core Strategy is an adopted development plan document. All the changes set out in the Inspector's Report have now been made to the Core Strategy.

The adopted version of the Core Strategy, binding inspector's report, sustainability appraisal and other related documents can be viewed, free of charge, on the web, at the Council Offices (2nd Floor, Civic Centre, Poole BH15 2RU) and at Poole libraries (please refer to the adoption statement for the office hours and library opening times).

The period of legal challenge has now lapsed. No challenges to the adoption of the Core Strategy were made.

Sustainability Appraisal Post-Adoption Statement

In accordance with the Environmental Assessment of Plans and programmes Regulations 2004, this Council is required to produce a statement which summarises, among other things, how environmental considerations have been taken account in the Core Strategy. This statement, together with the Core Strrategy Submission Document Sustainability Appraisal, is available here on the Council's website, as well as at the Council Offices and Poole libraries.

The Public Examination and Binding Report

The Secretary of State appointed Mr David Fenton BA (Hons) MSc DipTP MRTPI from the Planning Inspectorate to carry out the Public Examination (held in November 2008) into the soundness of the Council's Core Strategy. The Council has now received the binding Inspector's Report, which has concluded that the Core Strategy is sound, subject to changes which are set out in the report (refer to Appendix 1 of the Inspector's Report). This report is now a significant material consideration in the determination of the planning applications.

Status of Poole Local Plan First Alteration

The Core Stategy sets out the spatial planning framework for Poole for the period of 2006-2026. The existing Poole Local Plan First Alteration link will open in new windowwill continue to provide the detailed policy framework for the borough, with the exception of those policies which have been replaced or superseded by the Core Strategy. Appendix 1 of the Core Strategy Submission Document sets out the proposed programme of replacement of local plan policies by the Core Strategy and other emerging development plan documents in Poole's Local Development Framework.
