Library - Information And Reference
If you have an enquiry, we have expert staff to help you. You can contact us by phone, post or in person and we will give you an answer as soon as possible. Alternatively or use our online enquiry form to ask us anything! If you want to find the information for yourself we have a wide range of books, magazines and electronic resources. (You can access most of our electronic resources at home or in the office).
Books
All libraries have a range of general reference works, and Poole Central Library can help you with your more specialist enquiries. You should go to our Online Resources page to access reference books and national newspapers online (you need to be a library member for this as access is by means of your library card number).
Newspapers
All libraries carry a range of popular magazines, local newspapers and at least one national newspaper. Poole Central Library holds a wider collection of titles, including all the daily newspapers. If you want international newspapers, try one of these sites: Newsbank
, Kidon Media-Link
, Daily Earth
, or onlinenewspapers.com
.
Online information
All our libraries have computers linked to the internet that you can use for study or interest, photocopiers, and places for you to sit and read.
In partnership with Plymouth Libraries we are able to bring you the CyberLibrary
- a large selection of recommended websites.
Local information
For really local information, each library has a notice board where you can see what is going on in Poole. You may wish to ask your library to display a notice - just talk to the staff and they will help you (all you have to do is provide a paper copy of the notice, and provided it meets our display criteria and there is space, we will display it).
For local organisations you should try the Poole Partnership
website, Dorset County Council's clubs and societies database
, or Bournemouth council's website
.
