Community Safety

Police officers talking with a member of public.Community Safety is primarily concerned with communities, families, victims, and "at risk groups" and it is therefore essential that it is acknowledged as part of the day to day practice of all services of the local authority, the police, fire service, health and all agencies working within the Borough, both statutory and voluntary.

Whilst there is a strong emphasis on tackling crime and its causes, it is firmly believed that community safety is a quality of life issue which goes beyond crime reduction.

Each and every one of us is affected by crime the consequences of crime, either directly or indirectly. It therefore follows that we all have an interest in the following:

  • Tackling crime and the causes of crime
  • Reducing the fear of crime
  • Improving the quality of life in the local community for all
