Joining The Library

Joining the library is simple. You do not need to fill in a form (unless you wish to) - just come along to any of Poole’s 10 libraries and give the library staff your details. No proof of address is required.   We give you a plastic membership ticket straight away (please keep it safe!), and you can use it immediately at any library in Poole. When you sign on the back, you are agreeing to our terms and conditions (to see them, look at the 'download' section on the right).

You will be able to borrow up to 10 items.  You can also use the computers free of charge.

Under 16's will need to provide a signature (parent or someone else prepared to accept responsibility) to be able to use the computers.

Alternatively, you can download a form using the links on the right, complete it and bring it in to the library with you.

Not only does your ticket let you borrow library items, it also lets you access online information - when prompted, just enter your library number*. These are resources you would normally have to pay for, but which we have purchased for you to use.

Your library PIN

When you join, you will be given a PIN which you will need together with your library card number*  to access extra library services from any computer.

You can:

  • renew link will open in new window online - You should click on 'My account' before entering your card number. Only free items such as books need to be renewed - for all hired items, you pay for the extra period when they come back if they are late.
  • reserve link will open in new window items you have found on the library catalogue
  • view link will open in new window what you have on loan
  • change link will open in new window your PIN (login under 'my account' then click on 'change your PIN')
  • Use the library computers for free

If you are already a member, but do not have a PIN, please ask a member of staff, or email us quoting your name and library card number and we will email it back to you.

* Some older cards have a tenth character - this should be ignored
