Booktime
Booktime is an exciting project which the Children's Library Service is able to offer to local schools. In the autumn term all Reception children in Poole will receive their free Booktime pack containing the 'Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School', by Ian Whybrow. They will also receive 'The Puffin Book of Fantastic Poems'. Booktime is a collaboration between Pearson
publishers, Booktrust
and the Department for Children, Schools and Families
. All schools will receive their Booktime packs by courier and we contact schools to arrange visits from the Literacy Officers to hand over the packs to the children. For further information about this project please contact the Library Literacy Officers on 01202 261650.

Greenaway Award Shadowing - Each May - June approximately 60,000 school pupils nationally review the shortlisted Greenaway books based on their illustrations and type up their reviews on the shadowing website. This year pupils from Sylvan First School and and St Aldhelm's CE VA Combined School shadowed the Award.

In the Summer Term the Children's Library Service contacts every First, Middle, Combined and Special School in the Borough to promote the National Summer Reading Challenge. The challenge for this year is called the Team Read.
- Taking part in the Challenge increases children's reading confidence, skills, enjoyment and motivation.
- Children receive free collectors folders, stickers and other incentives.
- On completion of the challenge pupils are given a certificate and medal. We are able to visit school assemblies at the start of the Autumn Term to present certificates.
Special Events
Many school pupils have visited Poole Libraries to meet authors and illustrators. Recently children involved in the Cultural Hub have had the chance to meet Julia Golding and Kevin Crossley-Holland. Schools are contacted on a rotation basis when authors visit.
