Services for people with a visual impairment

  • Large print books
  • Audio books on cassette or CD are free to those with visual impairments
  • A low vision reader is available in Poole Central Library
  • Guide dogs are welcome in all our libraries

  • Reading group for visually impaired people meets in Poole Central Library

  • You can join the National Library for the Blind free-of-charge. For details go to www.nlb-online.org/ link will open in new window. As a member you can borrow books in Braille and Moon, as well as large print and audio books. You also have access to a range of online resources.

Services for people with a hearing impairment

  • Induction loops are available in all libraries at the counter area.
  • DVDs with subtitles available to borrow. Subtitles can be activated via a DVD player remote control or on-screen menu. Most modern players should have this facility.
  • Videos with closed captions. Captions may be accessible via television remote control (look for the CC logo). Otherwise, closed caption readers can be borrowed from the Home Library Service
  • Free loan of videos or DVDs (2 per visit)
  • Assistance dogs are welcome in all our libraries
