Our Standards
Healthpoint provides information on health, illness and disability in a variety of formats, for example:
- books
- leaflets
- magazines
- databases
- videos
- cassettes
- the internet
from one easily accessed centre, to the public and professionals working in the health/disability fields.
Our Quality Standards declare that:
- Enquiries should be received and answered in a non-judgemental and sympathetic manner
- Information given is accurate, up to date, unbiased and easy to understand
- Enquiries should be handled as quickly as possible
The steps taken to guarantee that this happens in Healthpoint are explained in the Standards ensuring that we:-
- Keep and improve our reputation for good service
- Encourage more use of the service
- Provide a respected model for information centres
- Show Bournemouth and Poole Primary Care Trust, Social Services across Dorset and Poole Library Service that they are receiving value for money
- Give the above organisations reliable information on people's needs and concerns.
Recommendations of the NHS Executive on general standards:
- To provide accurate, up to date and unbiased information in confidence
- Information should be given and not opinions, diagnoses or counselling
- To keep accurate records of the number, nature and geographical location of enquiries, how contact is made and whether the user is public or professional
- An annual report should be made available giving details of the service and the use made of it.
