School Admissions - Appeals (Middle Schools)
Admission appeals.
Any applicant who is refused admission to a middle school has a right to appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel. The local authority will not consider repeat appeals by the same applicant for the same school in the same academic year unless the applicant can prove that there have been significant and material changes in their circumstances since the previous admission appeal. The decision as to whether the material changes warrant a fresh appeal will be determined by the Head of Legal and Democratic Services.
Withdrawing an offer of a place.
There could be two reasons why a place may be withdrawn:
(a) Where, after making an offer of a school place, the local authority finds evidence of fraudulent or intentionally misleading information on an application form the result of which is that an applicant with a stronger claim is denied a place at a school, the local authority may withdraw the offer of the place and may consider the application afresh using the correct information.
(b) Where applicants are offered a place at a school and fail to accept the place by the date specified, the offer may be withdrawn.
Oversubscription criteria in school admission policies.
We are the admission authority for all Poole middle schools. The only time this policy is used is when we receive more applications than it has places available at an individual school. In these circumstances the "oversubscription" criteria in the admissions policy is used to decide who should be offered a place. Pupils with a Statement of Special Educational Needs issued by us naming a specific school where a pupil should receive their education will be admitted to any maintained school before preferences are considered for admission in September.
The criteria agreed by the Admission Authority are required to be in line with the School Admissions Code of Practice.
