Placements In Mainstream Schools

The Local Authority seeks to meet Special Educational Needs in local mainstream schools.

It is estimated that approximately 20% of pupils will have some kind of Special Educational Needs at some point during their school life. It is expected that the majority of these Special Needs are such that they will be met in a local mainstream schools without the additional involvement of the Local Authority. This means that the school will provide additional support if necessary.

However, some pupils' Special Educational Needs may be such that the Local Authority considers that additional or special provision is needed. This will be done in consultation with parents and professionals following a full assessment.

Wherever appropriate, provision would be made at the local mainstream school. As far as possible, the Local Authority seeks to meet pupil's Special Educational Needs in a mainstream setting.
