Early Years Support Services
Toy Libraries
Toy Libraries provide children, parents, carers, grandparents, etc the opportunity to choose and borrow toys. During the toy library session children can play with exciting new toys and take part in activities or play sessions, whilst parents or carers can meet with others in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Regular sessions are held at venues around Poole, please see the events for children section in our what's on calendar for details.
Bookstart
Poole Bookstart is part of a national programme that works with Poole Early Years Team, Poole Library Service and Poole Primary Care Trust to give out a free pack with books and guidance materials for parents and carers. It aims to promote a life-long love of books. It is based on the principle that every child in the UK should enjoy and benefit from books from as early an age as possible. Packs are usually delivered to families at babies' 7-9 month developmental check with their health visitor.
Baby Bounce & Rhyme
Baby Bounce and Rhyme sessions aim to introduce parents and carers to the fun and benefits of sharing nursery rhymes and action songs with their babies and toddlers. By encouraging babies to develop an early love of language, rhymes and songs, parents can help to provide a firm foundation for learning to read.
Baby Bounce and Rhyme sessions are held at libraries around Poole. Each session lasts about 30 minutes and includes nursery rhymes, clapping rhymes, bouncing rhymes, counting rhymes, finger rhymes, action songs and songs using musical instruments. For details of the next session check out the events for children section in our what's on calendar.
