Teenage Pregnancy

Poole Teenage Pregnancy Partnership

The Poole Teenage Pregnancy Partnership aims to help young people avoid unplanned pregnancies and to reduce their risks of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STI’s). The Partnership encourages and enables teenage parents to access a broad range of support services, and to engage with education, training and employment to reduce the risk of long term social exclusion.

 Services available to you

There are Youth Advisory Clinics across the area providing the full range of sexual health and contraceptive services for young people up to 21 years of age.

The partnership funds a specialist school & youth advisory project nurse based at Rossmore Community College who provides daily drop-ins within the school, a weekly health drop-in at Bourne Valley Youth Centre, and two youth advisory sessions at Rossmore Community Library/learning Centre.

A ‘condom card’ scheme has been launched by the partnership at various venues across Poole including some Youth Centres, The Connexions Shop, and the Quay Advice Centre enabling young people to get free condoms from places they regularly visit for other support.

The Partnership also supports a group for Young Parents & ‘Young Parents-to-be’ at the Quay Advice Centre each Friday run by QAC & Connexions staff with regular input from the school / youth advisory nurse and a midwife.

 Poole Teenage Pregnancy website

Access to information and confidential advice are essential elements of the partnerships work, and in 2004 we launched the Poole Teenage Pregnancy website link will open in new window.

This was designed by young people and has information about where you can go for sexual health and contraceptive advice, support for young parents/young parents to be, and general information on STI’s and methods of contraception.

All of the services listed are strictly confidential. This means that they will not pass on any information about you to parents, GP’s, etc. without your permission unless it is considered that failure to do so would place you, or other young people, at significant risk of harm! We do however recommend that you discuss your relationships with a parent or carer at the earliest opportunity, as you may need their support if you ‘have an accident’.

For further information please visit the website to find your nearest youth advisory clinic, or contact the Quay Advice Centre link will open in new window, 18 Hill Street, Poole. Tel. 01202 26229
