Poole Safe Scheme

Poole Safe Scheme

The Poole Safe scheme is run by Poole Council in conjunction with Dorset Police to ensure a safe environment within the Borough of Poole for people to work and drink.

Poole safe officers conduct regular visits to licensed premises to offer advice on the prevention and reduction of violent crime and alcohol related crime and to offer support to licensees with the aim of helping them provide a safe environment for people to drink in.

The development of Poole Safe Scheme

The Best Bar None awards scheme was developed by the Greater Manchester Police's City Centre Safe project as part of it's remit to address alcohol related crime and to improve the night time environment.

In April 2005 Poole Safe held its very first Best Bar None awards scheme, known as the Safe and Sound awards.  The scheme allowed licensees to demonstrate to officers how well they ran their premises and developed positive relationships between the trade, the council, and the Police.

Poole safe officers assess all licensed premises in Poole as part of a routine licensing visit. Premises must demonstrate a minimum standard of operating practices and procedures in relation to the four licensing objectives, namely

  • The prevention of crime and disorder

  • The protection of children form harm

  • Public safety

  • Prevention of public nuisance

The premises that meet the standard will automatically be eligible to become a Poole Safe participating premises and will receive a certificate and window sticker showing that the premises have met an appropriate standard.  Those not meeting the required standard will receive feedback  at the time of the visit and will  continue to be monitored until the required standard has been attained.

The Poole Safe participating premises standard can be removed at any time if the venue falls below the required standard.
