The total Council Tax bill is made up of three charges:

1. The first is made by us to help cover all services such as education, social services and highway maintenance.
2. The second charge is made by Dorset Police Authority . Like us, the Police is funded by a combination of Central Government grant and local taxation.
3. The third charge is made by Dorset Fire Authority . Like us, the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service is funded by a combination of Central Government grant and local taxation.

A detailed breakdown of the Council's budget is issued to Council taxpayers with their Council Tax bill.
